Thank you for visiting!

The Institute for Space Development Research (ISDR) engages in fundamental research, applied engineering, and outreach/advocacy activities in the interest of accelerating human expansion into our Solar System. The Institute for Space Development Research operates with the guiding belief that humanity should begin taking steps now to expand the human presence into our solar system, learn to access and utilize the considerable resources there, develop a basic space infrastructure, and explore the many opportunities space access presents. Our structure bridges industry, academics, and the grassroots NewSpace community and focuses on major scientific, technological, and political challenges obstructing our future in space. ISDR is interested in fundamental space science, space environment research, space-based resource acquisition and utilization possibilities along with commerce, industry, and eventual human settlement. ISDR also seeks to promote interest in space-related science in our next generation and to raise awareness within our government about the opportunity presented by space access and these new technology industries in providing for a healthy and competitive job market, technology advancement, resource independence, and the variety of ways in which space access and development can solve many of the existing and emerging problems here on Earth.

The Institute for Space Development Research explores these possibilities within the context of their long-term benefit to humanity. As our human population grows, and increasing numbers of that population occupy more developed societies, our Earthly resources will become too scarce. Further, it has become clear that human activities are harming our world in a variety of ways. An exploding resource-hungry population is emerging into a world of shrinking capacity. Investment in space technology has already permitted us to monitor our world, study the near-Earth system, and develop the first phases of a space economy in the telecommunications and satellite industries. Now, for the first time humanity has the opportunity to permanently open the door to the endless resources of space for our future generations and it's a step we need to take. Space provides us with the opportunity to continue to advance as a species without destroying our world and is the best assurance of our survival. Access to space is one of the greatest gifts we can give to future generations.

The Institute for Space Development Research is interested in the way in which our expansion into space will transition from one of scientific exploration to one of commerce, development, and settlement. As humanity is increasingly challenged with resource acquisition on Earth due to a growing population, declining supplies and political complications, space-based resources will become viable and even profitable options. Additionally, a new global space industry is already seeing tremendous growth as both government and private industry players enter the field. Many of the world's nations are increasingly interested in space and recognize that the future of resources and economic strength is at stake. Many industries are keenly interested in space-based research and manufacturing possibilities and the space access and tourism industries are on the threshold of a strong emergence.

These factors, and many others, will result in the emergence of technologies and capabilities that will enable a new age of human operations and presence in space. Synergies are emerging among industry participants that will provide for cost & risk reduction while permitting mutual problem solving. Advancements in robotics, nanotechnology, and materials science will benefit the space effort in significant ways while leading to the development of a wide array of useful consumer and down-to-Earth applications. With the emergence of cheaper access to space using a more diverse array of technologies, the door to space will be opened permanently.

The Institute for Space Development Research advocates a systematic approach to space development and settlement that is focused on the acquisition of space resources and the development of significant space infrastructure through strong encouragement of private space enterprise, government investment, and international collaboration. We also seek to support the grassroots NewSpace community as it plays a critical role in the development of unique ideas and advanced concepts. Our non-profit work is dedicated to permanently opening the door to space for all of humanity.

We hope you'll consider contributing or donating to the non-profit efforts of the Institute for Space Development Research. Our work supports the effort to explore and develop the near-Earth environment for the benefit of Earth and humanity, research human settlement and space-based resource acquisition, and remove barriers for private industry while creating technical jobs, economic opportunity, and supporting the next generation.
